Storytelling Empowerment Liberation
Who are we?
A team of justice-impacted visionaries and allies out to change the world. We are the antidote to the current media and public landscape that overlooks the perspective and voices of those closest to the pain.
What do we do?
Unincarcerated Productions creates transformative media by and for justice-impacted people. We produce podcasts, films/TV, and educational content. This is distributed on prison tablets across the country, as well as broad distribution on media platforms for the public - all developed in collaboration with incarcerated creators. Our work fills a critical gap: most people inside prisons have limited access to high-quality transformational programming and most of the public don’t have an opportunity to hear the authentic stories of the third of our population who are justice-impacted.
What do we strive for?
We believe in the power of storytelling to drive transformation—on three levels.
For individuals, we empower incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people to tell their own stories while building real-world media skills that lead to sustainable, AI-resilient careers.
For institutions, we help shift prison culture by fostering hope, empathy, and shared humanity between staff and the incarcerated population.
For communities, especially in rural areas where prisons are major employers, our work builds bridges of understanding between local residents and those returning home—reducing stigma, opening doors to housing and jobs, and transforming fear into connection.
